How to Choose Your Costa Rica Trip?
The country is compact but distances can be deceiving: mountain roads mean travel times are longer than they appear. For a first visit, our 10 to 14-day trips typically combine three regions: a volcano (Arenal or Rincón de la Vieja), a cloud forest (Monteverde or San Gerardo de Dota) and a coast (Pacific or Caribbean). To reach Corcovado and spend the time it deserves, or to experience both oceans, we recommend a 15 to 20-day format.
The right balance often comes down to a choice: add another region or spend two extra nights where wildlife viewing requires patience. We'll guide you based on your interests.
Different Trip Types
Our cultural itineraries include coffee fincas in the central valley, markets in Cartago and Creole villages in Cahuita. Adventure trips combine rafting on the Pacuare, hiking Chirripó (3,820 meters) and whale watching at Uvita. For family travels, we favor lodges with pools, short trails and wildlife encounters suited to children: sloths, capuchin monkeys, sea turtles at Tortuguero.
What's the Best Season?
The dry season runs from December to April on the Pacific and in the central valley—the most comfortable period but also the busiest. May and June offer a good compromise, with lush landscapes and lower rates. September and October are best avoided on the Pacific but ideal for the Caribbean coast and Tortuguero. Temperatures remain stable year-round, around 27°C at sea level and 15–18°C at altitude.
