1. Río Celeste Waterfall

 

Located within Tenorio Volcano National Park, the Río Celeste waterfall is undoubtedly Costa Rica's most famous cascade. And if it appears on every postcard, it's because it offers an almost surreal landscape. Indeed, it's defined by turquoise waters that leave visitors speechless! This water color is explained by a high concentration of aluminum silicates.

To reach the waterfall, visitors can follow a 6 km trail (round trip). Along the way, other wonders await: hot thermal springs, bubbling mud pools, encounters with wildlife...*

How to get there? To reach Tenorio Volcano National Park and see the Río Celeste waterfall, the simplest option is to head to the town of Guatuso, east of the park, or Bijagua, to the north of the park.

 

2. La Fortuna Waterfall

 

This is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Costa Rica. Located in the heart of the tropical rainforest of the Arenal mountain range, La Fortuna waterfall is a magnificent 70-meter-high drop. Fed by the Tenorio River, the water cascades into a blue-green pool.

To reach the base of the fall, visitors must descend 530 steps, which they'll need to climb back up.

3. Cascade del Toro

 

 

Located in the Alajuela region, amid an immense tropical rainforest reserve, Cascade del Toro ranks among Costa Rica's most beautiful waterfalls due to its unique configuration. Indeed, this 90-meter-high cascade has the distinctive feature of emptying into an ancient volcanic crater.

Once you arrive, you can enjoy an extraordinary view of the cascade and crater, then choose between two hiking paths to reach the foot of the falls: either a forest trail or a descent of 400 steps.

Good to know: for adventure seekers, rappelling down is possible.
